snow white & rose red

a grimm brothers inspired styled shoot

Last year my younger sister Gillian was getting ready to marry my husband David’s younger brother James:) She was slaving away sewing her gorgeous wedding gown (and all her bridesmaids dresses as well!) when I popped in for a visit and to lend a hand. Her fashion teacher at her university found out about us being two sisters who fell for 2 brothers and told us we were just like ‘Snow White & Rose Red’. I had NEVER heard of that fairy tale, so naturally I went home and googled it:) Fairy Tale Wedding Inspiration_001.jpg I absolutely loved the imagery in this short little fairytale (you can read the story here!) and knew that with the skills and creativity of some very talented halifax wedding vendors we could use this story and its imagery as a backdrop and put together a fabulous styled wedding photo-shoot:)  I worked side by side with my sister Gillian and it was just what this shoot needed! We brought our artistic visions together on this one and worked with some of our absolute favourite people and talented friends in the wedding world. The list of people we need to thank and brag about is BIG and the amount of thanks we owe them is overwhelming! Be sure to keep reading through to the bottom of the post to see all of the credits because pretty much everything you see in this shoot, from the gorgeous wedding gowns to the jewellery, accessories and confectionary is handmade!!:)

OUR FIRST FLIP!!!

David and I have been dreaming of buying and flipping an old house for quite some time. You see, David is a carpenter and spends so much time doing renovations for other people we thought it was due time to do one for ourselves:) David and his father have wanted to flip a house together for sometime as well, SO I made it my mission and ambition to turn this dream into a reality! After months of looking on View Point and MLS we finally found it- the perfect house for fixin’ up. This sturdy little gem is in a gorgeous little community in the up and coming north end and has got loads of potential! Dave and his father (Anne and me too!) plan to turn this house inside out and upside down!:)  I have to admit, I LOVE seeing results- seeing things go from ugly to beuatiful, from messy to clean, from start to finish… so check back , I definitely plan on documenting this venture along the way!:) DSC_4427.jpg

Natalie & Andrew

Halifax Wedding Photographer

Natalie and Andrew got married just over a week ago and both my husband and I had the privilege of being apart of their Atlantica Wedding:) I was honoured to do their wedding photography with my husband at my side – not only second shooting with me but singing at their wedding too (check him out here). Natalie and Andrew’s wedding was beautiful and elegant with so so many little but unforgettable and unplanned moments! They say that ladybugs are a sign of good luck, Natalie found one on her wedding dress (inside the hotel in march!?) I really dont know what could be luckier?:) Halifax Wedding Photographer01.jpg

The Crosby-Gionets

Halifax Family Photography

I love the colour palette of winter! I also love the reflective light the snow produces and think that winter family photoshoots in Halifax can be amazing and that more people should do them. I just wish it wasn’t so darn cold! Here are a few photos from a session I did recently of a fellow photographer (Heather Crosby-Gionet) and her family! Their daughter is absolutely adorable and didn’t say boo about the cold even once! I have never met a 1 year old who works the camera like this one did either! I guess thats the direct result of having a photographer as a mother;) Her are a few photos (okay a bunch) from their shoot!:)

A Halifax Seaport Market Engagment

Last Friday I met up with Natalie and Andrew for some good ol’ downtown Halifax Engagement Photos…..But, it was absolutey FREEZING outside. I actually think we chose the coldest day of the year. As tough as we Haligonians are and as much as Natalie’s gorgeous makeup (done by Vicky Mina) would have held up, we still decided to escape the cold every once in a while and venture into the halifax farmers markets (both old and new sites). Vendors were milling around getting ready for Saturdays market…and no one seemed to mind us as we explored and FULLY took adantage of an empty marketplace!:) Check out a few of my favs from what I think was the perfect backdrop for Natalie and Andrews photos!:)

A Little Walk for a Big Problem

THE COLDEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR :: 2013

“We are not called by God to do extraordinary things, but to do ordinary things with extraordinary love. ” ―Jean Vanier

This winter I have been feeling down and unmotivated. The EXTREME lack of sunshine and warmth definitely affect me. I fail to see the goodness in my life or in the world around me. But, my life IS great…and its full of love and family, friends and purpose. But, I still get caught up and overwhelmed with feelings of despair and hopelessness -specially when I think about the world around me. Maybe I think too much…and I will admit the winter’s cold dark days DO persuade me….but what I would REALLY like to do is take my cold winter feelings and use them for great good. I PLAN on KICKing my butt into gear and doing something for someone else that matters and makes a small difference in our big sad world and I could really use your help!:)

The Kiss Wedding Book

An Heirloom Piece

Its that time of year again and client albums are arriving in the mail! It is always SO exciting seeing the images in print. I think one of my favourite things about these albums, other than thefull-grain leather covers, thick durable photo printed (rather than press printed) pages, is that the pages lay beautifully flat, so you don’t lose any of the image in an fold. Each spread can be presented in all of its glory! Here is a look at the beautifully crafted albums. kiss
